    Train travel to Goa

As is with all public services in India, rail travel it seems is bursting at the seams due to the rising population. It is heavily subsidized by the government and is a very popular and economical means of transportation. With the completion of the 760kms Konkan Railway project that connects Mumbai to Mangalore; almost all of the coastal areas along the west coast are now accessible by train. The largest beneficiary has undoubtedly been Goa, but it was also here that the project met with most opposition, mostly for environmental reasons. Its large appeal lies in cutting down of travel time from Mumbai to Goa to under 10 hrs.
